Ferenc Czeisler, one among those artists had a key role in that process. He, the father of Circus Tihany is interpreted as the reformer of the circus art in all over the world. ECA Professional Conference in Budapest
Equilibrium, friction, equality – Learning mathematics, physics, biology with the assistance of the circus
12 January 2018, 10:00, Museum of Hungarian Argiculture
Vajdahunyad Castle in Városliget
The international professional world is paying attention to the renewing Hungarian circus art! We are constantly exploring the ways in which people can share the values represented by circus art such as trust, tolerance, endurance, humility, or teamwork.
The circus is a performing-arts branch capable of performing educational tasks, that can shape the relation of young people to the world and to themselves; which can create a new approach with its own symbolism; which is an example of human performance. The Capital Circus is pioneer in the circus pedagogical area and organized the conference of the European Circus Association (ECA), where Hungarian and foreign performers and circus artists discussed the methods and possibilities of its circus pedagogical field. It was about the Hungarian experience with practical presentation.
New ways to reform circus art
Circus pedagogy – using circus art for public education purposes
In connection to the 12th Budapest International Circus Festival, a professional conference will be held on the 10th of January next year with the participation of many countries, organized by the European Circus Association (ECA), which topic will be about the exploration of the possibilities of circus art for public service.
How can circus serve society in important public services? What public messages can certain circus acts convey? How can a teacher use a circus visit with her class for educational and pedagogical purposes?
A new method has answer to these questions: circus pedagogy.
Comprehensive experiment with the involvement of elementary and high schools
Just like theatres are used for educational and pedagogical purposes – it is called theatre pedagogy – and using museums for special lectures is wide-spread over the world, visiting circuses can be more than carefree fun and entertainment.
The Capital Circus of Budapest has been experimenting with circus pedagogy for two years now, in which excellent pedagogues analyse the social messages of certain tricks and how we can use those tricks for educational goals with the help of experts.
At the moment, more than twenty subjects are taught in Hungary with the help of circus pedagogy. These subjects are the following: friction, physics, combinatorics, geometrical elements, mathematics, balance, zoology, biology; and in the field of social knowledges: trust, punctuality, caring about each other, equal opportunities. These topics are elaborated precisely and in detail, in the catalogue of circus pedagogy, which we adapt to curriculums and student groups. This method is adopted by travelling circuses as well.
The goal of circus pedagogy is that circus would have an increasingly greater role as an art serving public and social purposes. The new method is important for the circus financially and revenue-wise besides its significance in the field of pedagogy: it increased the number of visitors of circus shows by one-third.
Presenting the new Hungarian pedagogical method at the St. Petersburg Cultural Forum
Peter Fekete, director of Hungarian Circus and Variety Nonprofit Ltd. has already made presentations about the positive results achieved in the paradigm shift in circus art described above at many scientific professional conferences, that got a lot of attention. Right now, he gives a presentation in the highly important St. Petersburg Cultural Forum which is one of this year’s most significant conferences regarding international cultural life.
